Baking powder measurement conversions
Recipes switch between volume (cups, tablespoons and teaspoons) and weight (grams) all the time, and for baking powder the two aren't interchangeable โ you have to know the density. Baking powder has a density of about 0.9 g/ml, which means:
- 1 cup of baking powder โ 216 g
- 1 dl of baking powder โ 90 g
- 1 tablespoon of baking powder โ 13.5 g
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder โ 4.5 g
Measuring tip. Baking powder is measured in small amounts where precision matters. One level teaspoon is about 4.5 g โ weigh it if a recipe is fussy about rise.
The pages below give you each specific conversion โ pick the exact one you need, with a full table and a calculator for any amount. When a recipe really matters, a kitchen scale beats every volume measure: weight ignores how packed or sifted the baking powder is.
