Butter measurement conversions

Recipes switch between volume (cups, tablespoons and teaspoons) and weight (grams) all the time, and for butter the two aren't interchangeable — you have to know the density. Butter has a density of about 0.91 g/ml, which means:

• 1 cup of butter ≈ 219 g
• 1 dl of butter ≈ 91.1 g
• 1 tablespoon of butter ≈ 13.7 g
• 1 teaspoon of butter ≈ 4.55 g

Measuring tip. Most butter is sold in blocks with gram markings on the wrapper — cutting to weight is easier than measuring soft butter by volume.
