Vegetable oil measurement conversions
Recipes switch between volume (cups, tablespoons and teaspoons) and weight (grams) all the time, and for vegetable oil the two aren't interchangeable โ you have to know the density. Vegetable oil has a density of about 0.92 g/ml, which means:
- 1 cup of vegetable oil โ 221 g
- 1 dl of vegetable oil โ 92 g
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil โ 13.8 g
- 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil โ 4.6 g
Measuring tip. Cooking oils are lighter than water, so a cup of oil weighs a little less than a cup of milk. The value is similar across most vegetable oils.
The pages below give you each specific conversion โ pick the exact one you need, with a full table and a calculator for any amount. When a recipe really matters, a kitchen scale beats every volume measure: weight ignores how packed or sifted the vegetable oil is.
